Not every manufacturer of clothing and textiles are equal and as such, it is important to take time and consider your requirements before selecting one. If you make a random factory choice online without even verifying whether the supplier will be able to attain your requirements, it will most likely end up very wrong. How to find a manufacturer in China, below are three main factors to consider when choosing a clothing manufacturer.
Compliance With Foreign Textile Regulations and Substance Control.
Clothing textiles are normally regulated in a lot of countries like Europe, US and Australia. Some safety standards like FHSA (US) and REACH (Europe) normally regulate substances like asbestos, AZO-colors and formaldehyde. A lot of the Chinese manufacturers, mostly the smaller ones, have no awareness of the substance contained in their textiles. But of course you can find a manufacturer in China that is well informed.
Clothing manufacturers tend outsource their components and fabrics from subcontractors. The amount of subcontractors involved can vary between 3 to even 100. Suppliers will need to test many samples so as to make sure no fabric that is non-compliant gets through and most factories consider this a time consuming and expensive procedure.
Importers who are based in countries like Australia, Europe, US and Canada need to ensure that they select a supplier who shows previous compliance with substances that are applicable and can even prove it.
Textile Labeling Requirements.
Regulations of clothing and textiles are not just limited to substances, but also packaging and product labeling. Different countries have varying labeling requirements. However, a lot of countries need the labeling to cover things like; washing instructions, fiber content and the country it originated from e.g. Made in China.
A supplier can however not really be compliant or non-compliant with the requirements of labeling. It is your job as the buyer to go about designing the textile label and then verify that it is compliant with your country’s regulations. The supplier’s work is to print the label but they also must be able to provide the buyer with information about the instructions for washing and the textile fiber content.
Quality Of Fabric.
Most people tend to assume that good suppliers with good reputation will obviously provide fabrics that are of high quality while bad suppliers will provide low quality fabrics and a lot of the time this is hardly the case. You may order clothes from a manufacturer that has modern machinery, clean facility, long history and good reputation but end up getting low end apparel that does not meet your requirements. This is because some manufacturers have a specialty in making low end apparel fabrics.
